Our School

Like many voluntary aided Church of England Primary Schools, St Matthew’s can trace its roots back to the eighteenth century when it was established as a charity school. By 1833 the school was affiliated to the National Society and held in conjunction with Sunday schools. In 1877 a new school building was built on a site given by the Vicar of Cainscross, opposite the church. The school moved to its present location in 1980. Whilst the school remains committed to its Christian foundation and traditional values of hard work, courtesy and selflessness, we are equally determined to be at the forefront of the educational process. Embracing the potential of modern technology is, of course, part of that process and in developing this website we are aiming to make that technology work for us, to help us provide information more effectively and to reach the widest audience possible. So whether you are a parent or a child, whether you have a child at St Matthew’s or are looking for the right school for your child, or even if you are an ex-pupil or parent of an ex-pupil, you are most welcome. Whatever your reason for accessing our site we hope you find it interesting, informative and useful. We will do our best to keep it up to date but if you have ideas as to how we might improve it, please let us know. Likewise if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.We look forward to hearing from you.mission statement
