The transition from Key Stage 1 to key Stage 2 is nurtured on entry to Year 3. Initially, a circle time session called ‘Time for Talk’ proves very popular as the children have time to show and tell linked to their own agenda. The timetable is also structured to enable the children to have an afternoon break to support concentration during the afternoon.
The spacious and inviting new-build classroom is located within easy access of both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 which enables the children to feel safe and secure across both Key Stages.Over the course of the year the children are encouraged to grow in independence and develop the ability to organise themselves within school and with homework tasks.
The introduction of French as a curriculum area is always met with great enthusiasm and is taught through a multi-media approach.
During their time in Year 3, the children have the opportunity to participate in swimming sessions to develop water confidence through an individually tailored programme. All the children take part in a Production, joint with Year 4, to showcase their singing, dancing and acting talents. This always proves to be a time of great excitement as the date to perform to parents gets ever closer! Parents are encouraged to become fully involved along the way through parent workshops linked to costumes and scenery. A class visit is arranged to the Corinium Museum, to build on the knowledge they have acquired in class linked to the Romans. Parents are warmly invited to attend the Year 3 class assembly which enables the children to shine individually and as a class.
