Year Four

Dear parents / carers,

Welcome back to school and welcome to Year 4! I personally am really looking forward to the year ahead and feel privileged to be teaching this class again. Our core Year 4 team will include myself, Mrs DJ, Mrs Brown and Mrs Keyes. We’ve all been getting stuck into the Year 4 curriculum and are enthusiastic and excited about the learning ahead.

In order to develop a very clear and positive approach to behaviour in school, we continue to follow our behaviour policy, linking in whole school values. These are referred to constantly in the classroom, playground and beyond.

In support of this, our own set of Class Rules will be created by the children, so they are clear in their understanding and are responsible for the outcomes of their learning and classroom environment. We will continue to use the Dojo system to share news with you about your child. As well as this, in Year 4, we send home positive postcards if a child has gone above and beyond the high expectations which includes detail about their success for you to keep at home and learn about their fantastic work in school.

Homework will be sent out on a Wednesday and returned on the following Monday. If your child needs support or has any questions on their homework, they are encouraged to bring it and ask us before the weekend.

Homework will include 1 maths sheet per week and 1 set of 8 spelling words per week. We would also like you to read at least 5 times a week and record this in your reading record. The child can read independently but the adult must have seen them reading and must still sign their reading record. Your child will continue to be heard read once a week in school.

Year 4 is also the year of a statutory multiplication check. In order to allow the children to thrive and be secure in their multiplication knowledge, we heavily encourage the children to use Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) every day. We have a leaderboard in the classroom that will be updated each week so let’s get Rocking!

PE will take place twice a week on Thursday and Fridays. Please can all children wear their full PE kit to school on Thursday but on Fridays, children will just need trainers. PE kits can include black tracksuit bottoms for the cooler weather. Long hair should be tied back for all sports and earrings covered.

If you wish to contact us, you will find one of us at the school gates every morning or afternoon or you can always communicate with us via Dojo.

Best wishes,

Miss Fry and the Year 4 Team
