Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back to school and to Year 1! I am looking forward to learning about some really exciting topics and can’t wait to see your children’s understanding and confidence flourish year. This letter outlines some of the routines and expectations for Year 1, as well as some key information to refer back to throughout the year.
Key information
PE will be taught on Fridays. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in their PE kit. We will have our additional PE lesson on Mondays, so please send your child in wearing their trainers for this. PE kits can include black tracksuit bottoms when the weather is a little chillier! Long hair should be tied back for all sports and earrings covered.
Our Year 1 team is made up of me, Mrs Cann, Mrs James, Mrs DJ and Mrs Carpenter. The children will have Forest School on Thursday afternoons with Mrs DJ and Mrs Cann. They will need wellies, a waterproof coat and waterproof trousers. Please send these into school in a named bag so that we can store them safely for the children. Mrs Carpenter will teach the children on a Monday morning every fortnight.
Please do send your child in with a pair of wellies that can be kept in school if possible. These allow them to enjoy playing on the field whatever the weather, without ruining their lovely school shoes!
Homework
Your child will be set new homework every week. This will come home on Wednesdays and returned to school by the following Monday. Homework tasks will include reading 5 times each week which needs to be recorded in your child’s reading records by an adult, ten spellings to practice and a weekly Maths activity based on what we have been learning in class. Please also encourage your child to use Numbots, when possible, to develop their maths fluency. A reminder of your child’s login details for Numbots is stuck in the front of their reading record, but please do let me know if you are having any issues accessing the site.
We have lots of exciting topics to explore this term, and you will shortly be receiving an overview of the key knowledge children can be expecting to cover between now and Christmas. We will be discussing our class expectations this week, and I will continue use Dojo to communicate with you about your child. If you have any further questions about Year 1, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m available to speak to on the gate or to communicate with via Dojo, and will always arrange an appointment if necessary.
I am really looking forward to working with you and your children this year!
Yours faithfully,
Miss Bale and the Year 1 Team
